Archer, Labuschagne, Perry, Harmer, Cummins named Wisden cricketers of the year

Three Australian, one Englisman, one South African makes the list of the Wisden cricketers of the year. Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne, Pat Cummins, Ellyse Perry, England’s Jofra Archer and Proteas Simon Harmer make the elite list of cricketers. The award is given to every player only once and relates to their performances in the English summer.

Jofra Archer shot into the limelight as he impressed with his raw pace. Archer was instrumental in England’s World Cup success as he was the third highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets in 11 matches of the ODI showpiece. He also bowled a decisive Super Over in the final against New Zealand. Subsequently, he made an impressive Test debut against arch-rivals Australia in the Ashes. The gun pacer scalped 22 wickets in four matches at a staggering average of 20.27.

Marnus Labuschagne has impressed with his gutsy skills ever since he became Test cricket’s first concussion substitute. The right-hander was the highest run-getter in 2019 as he scored 1104 runs in 11 Test matches at an average of 64.94. Labuschagne has shown great skills and temperament in crunch situations of the match.

Australia’s ace pacer and number one Test bowler Pat Cummins played a major role in the team retaining the Ashes. Cummins scalped the most wickets in the series as he took 29 scalps at an impressive average of 19.62.

Ellyse Perry has been a consistent performer in Women cricket as she produced great numbers against arch nemesis England. Perry scored 378 runs across all formats in the seven-match series. Furthermore, she scalped 15 wickets at an astonishing average of 12.8.

Simon Harmer led Essex to glory in the T20 Blast. Harmer delivered the goods with both bat and ball in the final against Worcestershire Rapids at Edgbaston as he took three wickets and smashed 7-ball 18 to win the thriller for his side.

The 31-year old took most wickets in the County Championship as he snared 83 scalps. Harmer led from the front to take Essex to Division one title for the second time in the last three years.
