Legendary Brian Lara has urged Virat Kohli to reconsider his retirement decision from Test cricket. It has been reported that Kohli has shown his desire to call time on his Test career and has given his message to the BCCI. However, the Indian board has also asked Kohli to rethink the decision on his Test future.
Lara highlighted that Test cricket needs players like Virat Kohli. The Indian veteran has always been vocal regarding the health of the oldest format of the game and has always put his weight in promoting the red-ball version.
Brian Lara wrote on X, “Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. @virat.kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career. #testcricket #thebest.”
Kohli scored 190 runs in five Test matches at an average of 23.75 on the Australian tour and struggled with deliveries just outside the off-stump channel against the Australian pace battery.
The expectations are always high from Virat Kohli but there is no denying the fact that he hasn’t been at his best in Test cricket in the last five years.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli’s former Indian teammate Ambati Rayudu concurred with Brian Lara and asked Kohli to once again think about his retirement decision.
Rayudu wrote on X, “Virat Kohli, please don’t retire.. The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India.. Please reconsider..”
India is all set to tour England for five Test matches, and it would be interesting to note Kohli’s final call.
