He definitely has the intelligence and credentials – Parthiv Patel on Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel reckons Jasprit Bumrah has the intelligence and credentials to take the captaincy baton from Rohit Sharma in the upcoming future. Bumrah had led India for the first time in the rescheduled fifth Test match against England, which the visitors lost by seven wickets.

In fact, the tourists were in a dominating position in the first three days of the Test match but they veered off the track in the last couple of days. However, Jasprit Bumrah had done a decent job in mustering his troops, providing he was leading for the first time in International cricket.

Bumrah has a clam head on his shoulders and that is palpable when he takes his reviews as a bowler.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah made his domestic debut for Gujarat under the captaincy of Parthiv Patel and the former Indian wicket-keeper was impressed with the youngster.

Parthiv Patel said on his YouTube Channel, “Jasprit Bumrah made his debut for Gujarat under my captaincy. So I had the opportunity to interact with him a number of times about how he wanted to set up a batter to take his wicket. That spoke volumes about how intelligent he is in taking cricketing decisions. Although India lost the Test under his captaincy, he definitely has the intelligence and credentials to be looked at as the future India captain.”

On the other hand, players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have led the Indian team recently in the absence of full-time skipper Rohit Sharma. Patel feels these three are also front contenders for the leadership role in the future.

“Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have both been a ‘work in progress’ as captains. With every passing game, their captaincy is improving and they, along with Hardik, are the three contenders I feel who will replace Rohit Sharma as India’s next captain.”

Meanwhile, KL Rahul will lead the national team in the three-match series against Zimbabwe while Shikhar Dhawan will take the deputy role. India will play the first ODI against the African nation on 18th August at Harare.

Rohit Sharma will take back the captaincy role for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup.
