Legendary Sunil Gavaskar feels Arshdeep Singh can be a very good bowler in Test matches, just like his teammate Jasprit Bumrah. Singh returned with impressive figures of 4-9 against the USA at New York on Wednesday and played a key role in restricting the opposition to 110-8.
India registered a seven-wicket victory and thus Singh was awarded Player of the Match. The fast bowler from Punjab has scalped seven wickets in three matches of the T20 World Cup at an economy rate of 6.25.
Arshdeep Singh has played six ODIs and 47 T20Is for India but he is yet to make his debut in Test matches. The left-arm seamer has scalped 49 wickets in 16 first-class matches at an average of 31.97.
“I do believe that he, like, Bumrah can be a very, very good bowler in red-ball cricket as well. Because if he can move the white ball so well, just imagine what he can do with the red ball. So I think the selection committee would do very well to look at him as an option for the red-ball game as well,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
The Littler Master hailed Arshdeep Singh’s temperament and said the left-hander did well to bowl the hard lengths against the hosts.
“He looked to bowl at hard lengths, looking to get the ball into the right-hander, and a little away for the left-handers. That’s been his strength, to be able to get both those deliveries on the spot and he wasn’t looking to bowl too many yorkers today, he was looking to bowl the hard lengths. And his temperament is fantastic,” Gavaskar said in the same discussion.
Arshdeep Singh has scalped 69 wickets in 47 T20I matches at an average of 19.84 and an economy rate of 8.45.
