“I was left embarrassed at the way they lost from good positions” – Wasim Akram slams Pakistan for 2024 home Test series defeat to Bangladesh

Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram criticized the Shan Masood-led team after their 2-0 Test series loss against Bangladesh. The Tigers won the opening Test match by 10 wickets whereas they registered a six-wicket win in the second Test at Rawalpindi.

Pakistan decided to declare after scoring 448-6 in the first innings of the opening Test match. Bangladesh took a 117-run lead after posting a gargantuan score of 565 runs on the board but the home team was skittled out for 146 runs in the second essay to give a paltry target of 30 runs to the visitors.

Similarly, Pakistan had Bangladesh on the mat at 26-6 after scoring 274 runs in the first innings of the second Test match but their bowlers could not nip it in the bud as Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 138 and 78 runs respectively to rescue their team from troubled waters.

Akram said he was left embarrassed at the way Pakistan lost from good positions against Bangladesh.

“It’s a huge setback and out cricket is at a crossroads. For a former player and captain and a lover of the game, I was left embarrassed at the way they have lost from good positions. I simply don’t get it. We are losing consistently on home turf and that says a lot about the quality of our cricket,” said Akram to AFP as quoted by TOI.

The former legendary fast bowler Akram added that the quality of Pakistan cricket has gone down with no grassroots activity.

“The quality of our cricket has gone down with no grassroots activity, so we do not have proper back-ups. We have a lot to work on. As a cricket nation, we have to be patient, that’s the key. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix,” said Akram.

Pakistan will next take on England in a three-match Test series, starting October 7.
