Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav said they want to be a selfless team after a 3-0 series win against Bangladesh. India registered a thumping win of 133 runs against the Tigers in the third T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Sunday.
SKY said they want to put the personal records on the backburner and every player’s aim should be to contribute to the team’s success. The same was evident when Sanju Samson completed his fifty with a six and his hundred with a four.
Samson clobbered the second-fastest century for India, getting to the personal milestone off just 40 balls, and scored a magnum opus knock of 111 runs off just 47 balls. The Kerala batter also smashed five sixes in the 10th over against leg-spinner Rishad Hossain.
SKY also played a captain’s knock, scoring 75 runs off just 35 balls and he added a huge alliance of 173 runs with Samson.
On the other hand, the bowlers were able to restrict the Tigers at 164-7 with Ravi Bishnoi and Mayank Yadav picking three and two wickets respectively.
Suryakumar Yadav said in the post-match presentation, “We’ve achieved a lot as a team. I want to have selfless cricketers in my team. We want to be a selfless team. As Hardik said, we want to enjoy each others’ performance on the field, off the field, spend as much time as possible and that camaraderie is carrying on the field and we are having some fun.”
He added, “The chat around the team has been like that, Gauti bhai said the same at the start of the series and when we went to Sri Lanka as well, no one is bigger than the team. If you are on 99 or 49 or anything, if you feel you have to hit a ball out of the park for the team, you have to hit it and the same thing Sanju did and I am really happy for him. We have to be very flexible. Everyone has to chip in. The way they showed it in this series, it was commendable.”
India will next take on New Zealand in a three-match Test series, starting October 16 in Bengaluru.
