Indian captain Rohit Sharma lauded his players ahead of the fifth Test match against England at Dharamsala. India lost the opening Test match at Hyderabad by 28 runs but bounced back in style to take an impregnable lead of 3-1 in the series by winning the next three Test matches.
India won the last Test match at Ranchi by five wickets as they came up with a collective effort. The hosts had their backs against the wall at 177-7 in the first innings after England posted 353 runs on the board.
Rohit said they have been able to absorb pressure in the ongoing series and the young players have grabbed their opportunity with both hands.
“For me, the way we won in the series is more satisfying. It has been a series of comebacks for us. Whenever we have been under pressure, we could absorb it and fight back,” Rohit Sharma said in Dharamsala on March 6.
Sharma added that the intent is to win irrespective of the pitch conditions on offer.
“Whether it’s rank turner or any other pitch, intent is to win. Even on rank turners, advantages and disadvantages are for both teams,” Sharma said on the conditions.
With the Dharamsala pitch expected to assist the fast bowlers, Rohit added that they can play an extra seamer but they have not yet finalized the decision.
“There is a good chance to play extra seamer. We have not yet completely decided on it but there is a good chance,” Sharma said in his press conference.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma deserves a lot of credit for leading from the front and getting the best out of the young players. Rohit has scored 297 runs in four Test matches at an average of 37.12.
The fifth and final Test match will be played at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala from March 7.
