IND vs WI 2022: We kept losing wickets at regular intervals – Nicholas Pooran

West Indies standing captain Nicholas Pooran rued the fact that they kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the second ODI against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday after his team lost by 44 runs. Pooran won the toss and decided to bowl first against India.

The tourists did a fine job in restricting the home side at 237 runs but once again their batting led to their downfall as they could not get any partnerships. Prasidh Krishna bowled a superb spell as he extracted extra bounce from the surface because of his height and pace.

Krishna returned with impressive figures of 4-12 in his four overs and breathed down the neck of the Windies batters. In fact, Shai Hope, Brandon King, Shamarh Brooks got off to starts for the visitors but none of them could convert their starts into a big score.

It was another disappointing batting performance from West Indies and there is no doubt that their top six batters have let the team down as they are not getting enough runs.

Pooran believes his team needs to be aggressive in their approach and come up with a better batting show in the upcoming matches.

Nicholas Pooran said in the post-match presentation, “With the bat, we didn’t build partnerships. We kept losing wickets at regular intervals. In the 39th over, we lost Fabian first and then Hosein in the very next. We need to continue to be aggressive. Pollard is a tough and big guy and should be back. Smith is a strong guy. He is a little inexperienced but sky is the limit for him. We did a good job with the ball and hopefully, we can do the same in the final game. And also do better with the bat”.

Meanwhile, the West Indies bowlers had done well in keeping India to a below-par score. Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith bagged a brace each while Jason Holder, Kemar Roach, Akeal Hosein, and Fabien Allen took one wicket each. However, the batting unit could not deliver the goods once again.

In fact, the Windies had only managed 176 in the first ODI and their batting has been their kryptonite. The third and final ODI will be played at the same venue on Friday.
