Mumbai Indians talisman all-rounder Kieron Pollard reckons his team should have won against Kings XI Punjab at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The match went down to the wire as it ended in a tie after both teams scored 176 runs. Subsequently, the first Super Over contest was also tied as they both managed five runs.
MI had an upper hand in the first Super Over contest as they required only six runs to win but Mohammed Shami was able to nail accurate yorkers to keep Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma at bay. In fact, both the teams had their chances to close out the game and both of them squandered the same.
However, it was Kings XI Punjab who had the last laugh after MI scored 11 runs in the second Super Over clash. Chris Gayle smashed a six on the first ball whereas Mayank Agarwal scored two boundaries to take his team over the finishing line.
Pollard heaped praise on Kings XI Punjab for holding on to their nerves in the final few minutes of the game. It was another humdinger contest and Punjab was able to get the much-needed two points under their belt.
Kieron Pollard said in the post-match ceremony, “It’s a game of cricket, you go out there to do your best, you prepare, there’s a process and the situation dictates what happens. We were on the losing side tonight. We should have won this I believe deep down but these things happen. We have been playing good cricket, even today we played a very good cricket game. It’s a matter of trying to improve each and every time. There are a couple of areas we need to improve on”.
On the other hand, Kieron Pollard also revealed that Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is not feeling well.
In fact, this was the second Super Over contest which Mumbai Indians lost in the ongoing season. Earlier, Mumbai lost the Super Over against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Mumbai is at the second place in the points table after six wins from nine matches. The defending champions have looked in ominous form and they would look to get back to winning ways in the coming matches.
MI will play their next match against Chennai Super Kings at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on 23rd October.
