Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson has admitted that they haven’t been able to identify the right score all season in IPL 2021. SRH could only manage to post a paltry score of 115/8 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The batting unit once again struggled to get going and could not get the momentum in their innings. SRH could only manage 35/2 in the powerplay overs despite the fact that Williamson scored 18 runs against Shivam Mavi in an over.
Meanwhile, KKR spinners were right on the money as Varun Chakravarthy, Shakib Al Hasan and Sunil Narine conceded only 58 runs in 12 overs they bowled collectively and also scalped three wickets. Furthermore, SRH played a total of 56 dot balls and failed to rotate the strike at regular intervals.
Williamson feels a total of around 150 runs would have been par as it was not the easiest of pitches to bat on. But the Orange Army lacked any kind of batting momentum in their innings.
Kane Williamson said in the post-match presentation, “I think if we got closer to the 150-mark, it might have been par. We did have our chances to squeeze the scoring but it was always going to be tough with such a low score. We haven’t been able to identify the right score all season. We need to go back to the drawing board and re-assess things. We could have built more partnerships. Unfortunately we were 10-15 short of what would have been a competitive score. He (Malik) has been bowling really quick in the nets and it’s really nice for him to get an opportunity today. Obviously we’re out of the competition, so it’s a chance for some other boys to also get on the park”.
SRH would have been disappointed as nothing has gone in their favor in the ongoing season. The Orange Army have managed to win only two matches in IPL 2021 and they have failed to come up with a collective team effort, which has led to their downfall. The team’s batters have let the team down and they will need to rejig their squad in the upcoming auctions.
SRH will play their next match against RCB at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.
