Delhi Capitals assistant coach Pravin Amre hailed Rishabh Pant for helping the team post a par score of 224 runs on the board against Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday. DC found themselves reeling at 44-3 but Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant were able to steady the ship.
Pant looked at his absolute best and played his best knock of the tournament, scoring a majestic knock of 88 runs off just 43 balls with the help of five fours and eight sixes. The left-hander scored his runs at a blistering strike rate of 204.65.
The DC captain added 113 runs with Axar Patel, who scored an impressive knock of 66 runs. Thus, DC were able to post a par score of 224 runs after they scored 97 runs in the last five overs.
Pant smashed Mohit Sharma for 31 runs in the final over, smashing the fast bowler for four sixes and a four.
“During the first time out, we were discussing on what could be the ideal score. Rishabh was confident. He said 180 was the score at the time being, but claimed the score could be more. And he single-handedly batted really well to help us score 224 runs,” said Pravin Amre after the game in the post-match press conference.
Amre revealed how Pant prepared for the IPL and lauded the DC captain for working hard on his game.
“It all started with a two-week camp in Vizag. He came there and prepared himself. At that time, he was at the NCA. I remember on Day 1 of the Vizag camp, he came to the ground from the airport. It is all about his hard work which is paying now. It was a special knock for him,” Amre added.
“It was a very good game of cricket. They came very close but in this format of the game, even a 1-run win is a victory for us,” Amre concluded.
