IPL 2025: Hardik Pandya hails collective effort after win against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya lauded the collective show of the team after they clinched a comprehensive seven-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Wednesday.

After deciding to bowl first, MI were able to restrict the Orange Army to a sub-par score of 143-8. MI opening bowlers – Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult – were right on the money and reduced the opposition to 13-4.

While Chahar returned with impressive figures of 2-12 in his quota of four overs, Trent Boult was the chief destroyer, with figures of 4-26 in his four overs.

As a result, SRH could not get going in their batting innings, especially in the first half whereas MI were able to chase down the score with 26 balls to spare.

Rohit Sharma scored back-to-back fifties as he scored 70 runs off 45 balls whereas Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 40.

Hardik Pandya said in the post-match presentation, “Good to have wins behind our back. Glad the boys are taking the momentum in the right way. Rohit, Deepak, Boult, SKY, everyone, always felt that once everyone started clicking, it’s going to be a complete combination, overall a wonderful win. Captaincy sometimes is about instincts, I like to see the game and react and not always rely on pre-made plans.”

Meanwhile, Vignesh Puthur was taken for 15 runs in the solitary over he bowled and Pandya revealed he wanted the opposition to take their risk against the spinner.

Pandya added, “At that point, we wanted them to take a chance and give us a wicket. Young guy, hadn’t played a couple of games, was tough for him and I understand.”

The MI captain said they can improve in all three aspects of the game and they are happy to win four on the bounce.

Pandya concluded, “We can get better in all departments, we discussed about being very clinical and very smart. We’ll take it game by game. We’re very satisfied with this win.”

Mumbai Indians will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
