Mumbai Indians spinner Mitchell Santner revealed his bowling strategy after they registered a comprehensive 59-run win against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in the ongoing IPL 2025. With this win, MI was able to secure its playoff spot.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav (73 off 43) and Naman Dhir (24 off 8) helped MI post a over-par score of 180 runs on the board on a difficult track.
MI bowlers made the most of the conditions, and Santner breathed down the opposition batters’ neck. The New Zealand spinner returned with impressive figures of 3-11 in his quota of four overs.
The left-arm orthodox spinner accounted for Sameer Rizvi, Vipraj Nigam, and Ashutosh Sharma.
Santner said after the win, “It was nice. Slightly slower wicket with the red soil. The more overspin you bowl, the more you get out of it. Today, that was my job, mix it up and keep the batters guessing, it was nice to see it spin. I bowl stump-to-stump, obviously there was a little bit there which was nice so you could essentially bowl a bit straighter. As a unit, we were great with the ball.”
The guile spinner gave credit to the batting duo of Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir for helping MI get to a par score after they scored 123-5 in 16.3 overs. Yadav and Dhir added 57 runs off the last 21 balls to finish strongly.
Santner added, “It was set-up by SKY and Naman to get us to 180 which was probably over par on that wicket.”
Santner also hailed Jasprit Bumrah, who returned with figures of 3-12 in 3.2 overs he bowled.
Santner concluded, “We have shown that in the last few games, the guys up top trying to swing the ball and it’s always nice to have someone like Bumrah to bowl at the back end of the powerplay and obviously at the end.”
