Former Australian spinner has picked four players which Royal Challengers Bangalore should retain before the IPL 2022 mega auction.
It has been reported that all the eight franchises could retain four players, in which two players can be Indian whereas two could be overseas. Furthermore, there could also be a combination of three Indian players and one foreign player.
Hogg feels keeping local players in the team will be vital. Interestingly, Hogg has named all Indian players which RCB should retain. Virat Kohli is the automatic choice for the franchise as he has been playing for the Bangalore-based team since the inception of the tournament and also leads the team.
Hogg believes RCB should retain young players like Mohammed Siraj, Devdutt Padikkal and experienced Yuzvendra Chahal. The former chinaman spinner that he would make sure as a franchise that for how many years AB de Villiers wants to keep playing before taking a final decision to retain him in the squad.
Furthermore, Hogg feels New Zealand gun fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will also be one of the options for the franchise that they can think of retaining. The former Australian spinner feels overseas players’ investment is too risky in the current scenario.
Hogg wrote in his Twitter post when he was asked to name four players which RCB should retain before the IPL 2022 mega auction, while answering a fan’s question, “4 year window to invest in players. Kohli Siraj Chahal Padikkal Keeping locals vital. I would find out how long AB De Villiers wants to play before I make the final decision. Jamieson would be looked out to. Overseas player investment is risky today though”.
Hogg also agreed with a fan that RCB might retain Washington Sundar ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal because of the former’s all-round abilities.
“Contemplating him for his all-round ability in front of Chahal. Maybe a better option as you have a large pool of spinners to choose from in the auction and all-rounders are harder to get. #RCB #IPL.”
Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a good start to their campaign in IPL 2021 as they won five out of the seven matches they played. Thus, the Virat Kohli-led team will look to continue their good show in the second phase of IPL 2021, which will be played in the UAE from September 19.
