Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara lashed out at Harry Brook after the right-hander was dismissed in the opening session of the fourth day of the third Test match against India at Lord’s. Brook took the aggressive approach from the get-go despite England losing three quick wickets in the opening session.
The right-hander was bowled by Akash Deep while attempting a paddle sweep after scoring 23 runs off 19 balls. Earlier, Brook had scored 15 runs against Akash Deep in the previous over.
Sangakkara said Brook’s shot was just arrogant and not Bazball.
Kumar Sangakkara said on commentary for Sky Sports, “It is just arrogance. Not even Bazball. Harry scored 15 runs against Akash Deep and then played a silly shot — that’s arrogance.”
Meanwhile, Brook had scored a fine knock of 158 runs off 234 balls in the first innings of the second Test at Edgbaston, Headingley and added 303 runs with Jamie Smith.
But Brook could not deliver in the Lord’s Test as he was dismissed after scoring 11 runs in the first innings. Brook was bowled by India’s gun-fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah as his struggle against the incoming deliveries continued.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill and co. were involved in a heated argument with England openers – Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett – at the end of the third day’s play when the opening duo were looking to waste time to play out the final over.
“If I’m wearing the Indian hat, I would have done all that. We call it Tamasha. All that is allowed on the field of play. You want all that, you can’t just have ‘good morning’, ‘good evening’, and then go home. Little bit of argy-bargy is okay,” Shastri said on Sky Sports ahead of Day 4 at Lord’s.
England were 182-8 after the tea break on day four.
