India’s rising star Arshdeep Singh has said that Umran Malik makes his job easier by bowling consistently around the 150 kmph mark. Both Singh and Malik made their respective ODI debuts in the first game of the series against New Zealand on Friday.
Malik was able to impress as he scalped two wickets and conceded 66 runs in the 10 overs he bowled against the home team. However, Singh, who has impressed in the T20I format, couldn’t make a decent start to his ODI career as he leaked 68 runs in the 8.1 overs he bowled and went wicketless.
Arshdeep Singh said while speaking to Indian Express, “It’s an edge for me to play with Umran. He bowls 155 KMPH and makes things easy for me. We are loving our partnership on the field and off the field as well. Hope it continues for a long.”
Meanwhile, Singh has done a fine job for the Indian team in the T20I format. Singh has taken 33 wickets in 21 matches for the national team. Furthermore, he had scalped 10 wickets in six matches of the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
Speaking on the difference in ODI and T20I formats, Singh said, “As a bowler, I haven’t thought much about the difference between the two formats. The way I bowl- I attack in the beginning and defend in the middle. I think this goes with the ODIs as well. Whenever and wherever I will get a chance to bowl, I will try to get wickets for the team.”
Singh has impressed with his ability to swing the ball both ways in the PowerPlay overs and he can also bowl economically at the fag end of the innings as he can nail the yorkers. On the other hand, Malik can consistently bowl over 145 km and he can breathe down the neck of the opposition batters with his extra pace.
The third ODI between India and New Zealand will be played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Wednesday.
