Ravi Shastri expresses concern on Jasprit Bumrah’s workload after Day 2 between ENG vs IND 1st Test

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri raised concerns regarding Jasprit Bumrah’s workload after the second day’s play between India and England at Leeds, Headingley on Saturday. It has been already conveyed that Bumrah would not play all five Test matches against England. Bumrah bowled 13 overs on the second day after India posted 471 runs on the board and looked threatening in each of his spells.

At the end of day’s play, Bumrah returned with figures of 3-48 and bagged all the three England wickets. The fast bowler accounted for Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley and Joe Root. Bumrah also had Duckett dropped twice off his bowling and also dismissed Harry Brook, but unfortunately it didn’t count as he bowled a no-ball.

Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna failed to provide any substantial support to the pack leader as the duo went wicketless. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur also could not create many opportunities.

“I’m really concerned about Bumrah and what his workload will be as the series progresses, because he is the one man who is expected to pick wickets every spell he bowls. I just hope someone at the other end puts their hands up,” Shastri said on Sky Cricket.

On the other hand, England opener Ben Duckett rated Bumrah as the best bowler in the world, stating he is at his best all around the globe.

“He is the best bowler in the world. He’s extremely hard to face, good in any conditions, and when he’s coming in down the hill with the lights on and it’s swinging both ways, it’s tough,” Duckett said after play on Day 2.

At the start of the third day’s play, Prasidh Krishna was able to dismiss centurion Ollie Pope.

England are currently 237-4 and they trail by 234 runs.
