Former South African gun fast bowler Dale Steyn hailed Suryakumar Yadav for not changing his aggressive approach despite leading the team. Steyn feels leading a team sometimes becomes a burden but SKY has been able to express himself as a batter.
The Indian skipper once again scored an impressive knock of 56 runs off just 36 balls with the help of five fours and three maximums. The right-hander completed his fifty off just 29 balls and played with an aggressive approach despite India losing two quick wickets of their openers – Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.
SKY also added 70 runs with Rinku Singh after India lost three wickets in the Powerplay overs.
“We spoke about him just after the break. He’s got a lot of shots, and he makes it look real easy. Sometimes it’s a burden being a captain. There’s a lot that you have to think of, and it can sometimes change the way in which you play your game,” said Steyn on Star Sports.
“He walked out there at six for two and he was still able to continue striking it for almost 200. That shows you that he’s not going to change the style in which he scores his runs. He’s not going to change the approach. And that looks like a good thing for India going forward because you know that he’s always going to be aggressive and the opposition are not going to be able to run in there and do what they want to do,” Steyn added.
Meanwhile, SKY also became the joint-fastest to complete 2000 runs in T20Is along with Virat Kohli as he got there in 56 innings. However, SKY’s knock went in vain as South Africa chased down the target of 152 runs with five wickets in hand (DLS method).
The third and final T20I of the series will be played at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg on Thursday.
