Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra has hailed Rohit Sharma’s six-hitting prowess. Rohit completed 300 maximums in the 50-overs format as an opener after scoring four sixes in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday in his knock of 64 runs.
Rohit has now smashed 302 sixes in ODI format as an opener in 177 matches and he is only behind Chris Gayle’s tally of 328 maximums. Overall, Rohit has scored 330 sixes in the ODI format.
Rohit has been India’s best batter in the first two ODIs against the Island country. The Indian skipper has returned with attacking knocks of 58 and 64 runs and has batted with a blistering strike rate of 134.07.
“Rohit has been batting really well, hitting sixes while standing still…” Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
“He has hit 302 sixes as an opener which is only behind Chris Gayle in ODIs. Sometimes he even shows that footwork is overrated… He’s even doing it against spin.”He has hit two half-centuries in consecutive matches so he’s doing his job and scoring quickly so others can take their time.”
The renowned commentator also opened up India’s batting woes against Sri Lankan spinners in the first two ODIs. India has been bundled out for 230 and 208 and the middle order has failed to deliver the goods.
“Even if the opposition bowlers aren’t of great quality, we are struggling,” he said.
“You know why? Because we are no longer used to these wickets. We play very well on flat tracks, even spin, better than most teams. We also bowl better spin on flatter tracks. But when the ball is turning, we fall on our knees.”
The third ODI between India and Sri Lanka will be played at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Wednesday.
