Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has said it is quite obvious that India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will replace Prasidh Krishna in the third Test match against England. Krishna has looked toothless in the first two Test matches as he has failed to create any impact.
The lanky pacer has been expensive in the first two games and he could only take a solitary wicket of Chris Woakes in the second Test match at Edgbaston.
On the other hand, Bumrah’s return is going to add more strength to the team’s bowling line-up after Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep impressed in the second game. Bumrah had returned with figures of 5-83 in the first innings of the opening Test and he is going to hold the key for the tourists.
“I think it’s clear. Prasidh Krishna has to go out because, in the first innings, he was a bit expensive. Even in Leeds, although he got a few wickets, he really didn’t look like he was going to break through,” Gavaskar said on Sports Tak.
“With Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, you’ve seen the number of top-class deliveries that they’ve bowled. And they might not have gotten wickets – the batters played and missed, and the ball rapped them on the pads. It has to be Prasidh because his length wasn’t quite right. I believe he will make way for Bumrah,” he added.
On the other hand, India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant revealed that they haven’t yet taken a call on their bowling combination.
“Options are still open, discussions still going on. Sometimes wicket changes colour in two days. We will take the call. Whether it will be 3+1 or 3+2,” Pant said during the pre-match press conference.
The third Test match between India and England will be played at Lord’s, London from 10th July onwards.
