The break Virat Kohli has had off cricket will help him going into Asia Cup: Shane Watson

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson believes the break that Virat Kohli has taken recently will help him going into Asia Cup. Kohli didn’t have a great run for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2022 and then he was rested in the T20I series against South Africa and Ireland.

Subsequently, he made a return to the squad for the England tour but could not deliver the goods for the team despite getting off to starts in a few matches. Kohli was then once again rested for the tour of West Indies and Zimbabwe. The talisman is now all set to make a return in the Asia Cup and he will look to hit the ground running.

In fact, a lot of cricket experts, including Ravi Shastri had earlier said that a break from the game will do a world of good for Virat Kohli.

Speaking on ICC review, Watson said, “You could just see that his energy was a bit sapped, even during the IPL. You could tell, no matter how much he tried he was always up and about, but you could see the light was just out a tiny bit.”

“This month that he’s had off cricket will make sure that that light’s shining very bright going into this Asia Cup, knowing there’s a T20 World Cup in Australia coming up as well.

“So when you’re able to have a break, and because the Indian cricketers in particular play so much cricket, for Virat to be able to have some time off, especially a month, that’s just going to regenerate everything he needs to be able to take stock of what happened, freshen up mentally and physically.

“He’s too good not to be able to find his groove. It’ll only take him a couple of balls, get into the battle again, and away he goes,” said Watson.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has all the experience under his belt and he will look to get back at his best in the Asia Cup. Kohli has been a consistent performer over the years and he is going to hold the key for the Indian team.

The right-hander will be seen in action in the high-octane Asia Cup clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on 28th August.
