Indian skipper Rohit Sharma doesn’t want to rush the comeback of gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. The ace paceman was ruled out of action ahead of the Asia Cup with a back injury. The fast bowler played a couple of matches against Australia but he was later ruled out of the all-important T20 World Cup.
Bumrah was then recently expected to make his much-awaited return in the ODI series against Sri Lanka but he was pulled out of the squad after he once again complained of stiffness.
The right-arm pacer has been ruled out of the first two Test matches against Australia and Rohit is hopeful that Bumrah will be able to come back into the squad for the final two games. However, at the same time, Rohit doesn’t want to rush Bumrah’s return.
“About Bumrah, I’m not too sure at the moment, of course for the first two Test matches he’s not going to be available,” Rohit said on Tuesday (January 24).
“I’m expecting that; not expecting but hoping he plays the next two Test matches but again we don’t want to take any risk with him. The back injuries are always critical. We have got lot of cricket coming up after that as well, we will see, and we will monitor. We are in constant touch with doctors and physios at NCA and we are constantly hearing from them.”
Bumrah has struggled with his back injury and it will be important for India that he fully recovers before making his much-awaited comeback.
On the other hand, India came up with a fine performance against New Zealand as they clinched the ODI series by 3-0 after winning the third game by 90 runs on Tuesday at Indore.
India and New Zealand will take on each other in the three-match T20I series, beginning Friday in Ranchi.
