Star England batter Joe Root has tipped Virat Kohli as the greatest chaser of all time. Kohli has been in prolific form in the ongoing World Cup and he has once again proved his mettle while chasing. The talisman had scored a fine century against Bangladesh whereas he scored a fine knock of 95 runs against New Zealand while chasing the score.
Earlier in the tournament, Kohli had scored a crucial innings of 85 runs in the pressure situation against Australia. However, the right-hander was dismissed for a duck against England at Lucknow on Sunday.
Kohli has scored 354 runs in six matches of the ongoing World Cup 2023 at an average of 88.50 and a strike rate of 88.50. The veteran has scored 5786 runs in 102 innings while chasing at an unbelievable average of 90.40 and a strike rate of 97.16.
“Virat is probably the greatest chaser of all time his record is incredible,” Root told Star Sports.
Earlier Kohli had admitted that he is looking forward to challenging him against the pace of Mark Wood and the guile of Adil Rashid.
“Mark Wood I have played against him a few times he is a great bowler he has the skill set to trouble batsmen I would like to test myself against real pace,” Virat said.
“Adil Rashid, he is a very underrated bowler and he has been doing well for England a very challenging bowler I look forward to play against,” Virat added.
Meanwhile, India could only post 229 runs on the board against England after they were put into bat by Jos Buttler. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 87 whereas Suryakumar Yadav scored 49 runs for the hosts.
David Willey scalped three wickets whereas Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid bagged two wickets each for the defending champion.
