Warriors’ Steph Curry scores 1st slam since 2019, says it’s ‘my last dunk’

Golden State Warriors’ talisman Steph Curry scored his first dunk since 2019 and said it will be the last of his career. The fans at Wells Fargo Center were pumped up when Curry notched up a one-handed slam.

This was Curry’s 27th career-dunk but the Warriors suffered a 126-119 loss against the Philadelphia 76ers.

“That will probably be my last dunk,” Curry said. “I’m calling it right now. That was the last one you’re going to see.”

Curry had 29 points and 13 assists but his efforts went in vain as the Warriors’ five-match winning streak was snapped by the 76ers. Jimmy Butler was ruled out with back spasms.

The Dubs were trailing by 13 points at one stage but went 18-6 after that but could not keep up the same show. Curry, 36, was asked if he remembered the last time he dunked in a game.

“Of course I do,” Curry replied. “Six years ago. At home. Right wing. The right corner. A little back cut. I think it was a pass from KD [Kevin Durant].”

“I was at Oracle. I never dunked at Chase [Center]. How about that?”

Curry revealed assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse told him to throw down a dunk. After the dunk, he gestured toward Stackhouse while walking to the bench for a timeout.

“He hadn’t said that all year,” Curry said. “And I haven’t heard that in years and it happened tonight.

“It was a very random comment this morning and the fact that it happened, it was hilarious.”

Curry said he wanted to grab the opportunity with both hands but jokingly said that scoring a dunk took a lot out of him.

“And you want to take advantage of a cherry-pick opportunity,” Curry said. “That will probably be my last dunk though. … For sure, I will only lay the ball up. It took everything out of me to get up there.”

The Warriors will next take on the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
