Former Indian cricketer Devang Gandhi said the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel has done a good job. Gandhi highlighted that the selection committee role is not easy as the selectors are always under scrutiny. Recently, the selectors were questioned a lot by many experts after Shreyas Iyer could not find a place in the Asia Cup squad.
Meanwhile, under Ajit Agarkar’s selection panel, India has won the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy. The former Indian fast bowler has taken some brave calls, which have paid rich dividends.
“Selector’s job is not easy. It is not easy to please everyone. It’s never easy. Often, it’s not about selection but elimination,” Gandhi said in the interview with TOI.
“Some decisions may sound harsh. As a player, I understand the emotions of those left out. If things are communicated well, players also understand. Ultimately, you just have to wait for your time and grab the opportunity,” he added.
Meanwhile, a young Indian team recently drew the five-match Test series against England by 2-2 under Shubman Gill’s leadership.
“Ajit and his team have done a very good job. Under their tenure, India has already won two ICC trophies, which people should not forget. On the recent England tour too, a young side did well,” Gandhi said.
India is set to take part in the Asia Cup. The eight-time champions will open their campaign against the UAE at the Dubai International Stadium on September 10.
