Gautam Gambhir Hails Shubman Gill’s Leadership After Thrilling Series Draw in England

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir showered praise on captain Shubman Gill after his stunning run of form powered the team to a hard-fought 2-2 series draw against England. Gill, who was entrusted with leading India in the five-match series, delivered in style, amassing 754 runs with four centuries to stamp his authority on English soil.

“I think Gill has done a fabulous job, that’s all I can say, and he will keep doing well for Indian cricket,” Gambhir told reporters on Tuesday after returning from the UK. The coach credited Gill for leading from the front, highlighting his temperament and consistency across the grueling series.

Despite being involved in tactical calls, Gambhir was quick to shift the spotlight to the players. “We are really happy. I think the boys deserve every bit of it because of the way they fought since the last two months in all the five Test matches. They deserve all the plaudits,” he said, underlining the resilience shown by the squad.

Among the standout performers was pacer Mohammed Siraj, whose fiery spells earned him accolades from fans and experts alike. Yet Gambhir refrained from singling out individuals, pointing instead to the collective effort that carried India through the demanding tour. “Look he (Siraj) has been really brilliant, not only him, but the entire team has performed brilliantly, and it is really difficult for me to mention one name,” he explained.

The coach went on to highlight a range of players who rose to the occasion at different moments during the series. “These guys have, be it Shubman, be it Siraj, Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja], Washi [Washington Sundar], [Yashasvi] Jaiswal, I can stand here and talk for the next 20 mins about the individual performances. I think the boys have been brilliant in the last two months,” Gambhir added.

India’s spirited performance in England has been seen as a strong statement of intent, with young leaders like Gill showing they are ready to take the baton forward. The series also showcased India’s depth, with both experienced stars and emerging names contributing in crucial situations.

With Gill’s emergence as a dependable leader and Gambhir’s backing of a team-first philosophy, Indian cricket will be optimistic about building on this momentum in the coming years.
