Gujarat Titans have suffered a huge blow as Jason Roy has decided to pull out of IPL 2022 citing the challenge to stay in the tournament for a long time.
Roy was bagged for his base price of INR 2 crores by Gujarat Titans, who will make their debut in IPL 2022. No replacement has been thus far named by the franchise. The 15th season of the Indian Premier League will begin on March 26 whereas the final of the tournament will be played on May 29.
Roy had recently played for Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League and he had scored 303 runs at an impressive average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 170.22. The right-hander had scored two fifties and also scored a blistering hundred against eventual winners Lahore Qalandars. Roy finished as Gladiators’ top run-getter of the season despite playing only six matches for the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led team.
Meanwhile, Roy has scored 329 runs in 13 IPL matches at an average of 29.91 and a strike rate of 129.02. Roy had made his IPL debut back in 2017 for Gujarat Lions against Kolkata Knight Riders. The English batter also played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In fact, this is not the first time when Roy has decided to pull out of IPL as he had opted out of the 2020 season due to personal reasons. Subsequently, he went unsold in IPL 2021 auction but he was named as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
As Roy has decided to pull out of the upcoming season, Gujarat Titans will bank upon Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, and Matthew Wade to open the innings.
