India’s gun fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will miss the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Bumrah was added to the ODI squad on January 3 but sources have revealed the management doesn’t want to rush him back into action.
The fast bowler had last played back in September 2022 and he was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back injury. Bumrah is not among the players who have traveled to Guwahati, which is the venue for the first ODI against Sri Lanka.
The BCCI had earlier added Bumrah to the ODI squad but he will not take part in the ODI series.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has included pacer Jasprit Bumrah in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Mastercard 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka,” the BCCI had said in a January 3 media release.
“The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon,” the BCCI had further said.
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, the fast bowling onus will be on bowlers like Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Umran Malik.
Meanwhile, players like Rohit Sharma, vice-captain KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer, who were not part of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, have joined the squad in Guwahati.
India had clinched the T20I series by 2-1 under the leadership of Hardik Pandya and the home team will look to come up with a collective show.
The first ODI will be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on Tuesday.
India’s updated squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (VC), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh.
