IPL 2025: We conceded 15-20 runs extra, admits Shubman Gill after loss against LSG

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill admitted they conceded 15-20 runs extra after suffering a 33-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Thursday.

LSG posted an above-par total of 235-2 on the board after Mitchell Marsh scored his maiden IPL century. The Australian smashed 117 runs off just 64 balls with the help of 10 fours and eight sixes as he scored his runs at a blistering strike rate of 182.81. Marsh added 91 runs with Aiden Markram, who scored 36 runs off 24 balls.

Furthermore, Nicholas Pooran scored 56 runs off just 27 balls whereas Rishabh Pant added the finishing touches with 6-ball 16.

Barring Mohammed Siraj, who gave away his runs at 9.20, all the GT bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 11.

Shubman Gill said in the post-match presentation, “We gave 15-20 runs extra. Wanted to stop them around 210. Huge difference between 210 and 230. We bowled well in the powerplay, didn’t get any wickets, but after the powerplay in the 14 overs, they scored around 180 runs, which was a lot.”

Speaking on the positives, Gill said, “We were right in the game till the 17th over, it was never easy chasing 240. Lots of positives for us – Rutherford and Shahrukh’s batting was a big plus.”

The GT captain said getting back to winning ways would be crucial before the playoffs.

Gill concluded, “Getting back some momentum would be key, would want to get back to winning ways heading into the playoffs.”

Gujarat Titans will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
