New Zealand veteran batter Kane Williamson showered praise on Virat Kohli after the Indian batter announced his retirement from Test cricket. Kohli took to Instagram on Monday to confirm his Test retirement after a stellar career.
Williamson and Kohli have been involved in many thrilling battles on the field and they have also shared a great friendship with each other, off the field.
Kohli amassed 9230 runs in 123 Test matches at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries. The talisman also led India with aplomb, in 68 Test matches, winning 40, drawing 11 and losing 17, and thus he is regarded as one of India’s most successful Test captains.
The former New Zealand captain wrote on Instagram, “Congratulations brother, @virat.kohli. What a journey. The numbers are there for everyone to see, but your impact has gone far beyond that. You’ll be remembered for pushing the boundaries of the game. That drive and hunger has been an inspiration to all of us.”
“A pleasure to share the field from the U19 days and right through 14 years of test cricket. Gosh, where has all that time gone. It’s a credit to you that you expressed your authentic self right from the start through to the end. Respect bro, all the best with the new chapter.”
On the other hand, another member of the Fab four, Steve Smith, also congratulated Kohli on a successful Test career.
Smith wrote on his Instagram story, “Congratulations @virat.kohli on an incredible Test career.”
Kohli played a key role in taking India’s Test team to new heights as a leader and got the best out of his players. Under Kohli’s captaincy, India was able to build a potent pace bowling battery, which helped the team in winning overseas.
Kohli will be seen in action in IPL 2025, which will resume on May 17.
