Australian veteran spinner Nathan Lyon has named Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant as the three batters who could challenge the Australian team in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy.
Virat Kohli has scored 2042 runs in 25 Test matches against Australia at an average of 47.48, including eight centuries. Kohli has even better numbers while playing in Australia as he has scored 1352 runs in 13 Test matches at an impressive average of 54.08, including six centuries.
Meanwhile, Pant has an unbelievable record while playing Downunder. The left-hander has scored 624 runs in seven Test matches against Australia at an average of 62.40 while playing on the Australian shores.
Rohit, on the other hand, has scored 408 runs in seven Test matches on Australian soil.
Speaking to Star Sports, Nathan Lyon said, “Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant are probably going to be the three really big ones.”
The veteran off-spinner reckons batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Ravindra Jadeja will hold the key for India.
“But then you have still got Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and who else will come out–another five, I am not sure. But it is a pretty amazing line-up they have got, so it is going to be a massive challenge. As I said, if we, as a bowling group, are good enough for long periods, hopefully, we can challenge their defense,” the veteran spinner went on to add.
India has done a fantastic job as they have come up with a collective show in Australia in the last two tours. Furthermore, India’s pace battery has been right on the money on the bouncy pitches.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
