Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra feels Suryakumar Yadav might not get his chances in ODIs and Test matches. SKY recently led India to a 3-0 series win against Sri Lanka in T20Is but he was not included in the ODI squad by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel. The right-hander led from the front as he scored 92 runs in three matches and was awarded Player of the Series.
SKY has a fantastic record in T20Is but he hasn’t grab his opportunities in ODIs. The talisman has scored 2432 runs in 71 T20I matches at an average of 42.67 and a blistering strike rate of 168.65. But he has managed only 773 runs in 37 ODIs at an average of 25.77.
Furthermore, SKY has played a solitary Test match, and he could score eight runs on his debut against Australia in 2023 at Vizag.
“Not in the near future. I think that decision has been taken. ODI cricket is played less now in any case and the team has decided now itself that they are not keeping him for the Champions Trophy and will consider him a T20 specialist,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
The renowned commentator feels batters like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, who scored runs against England, might not play against Bangladesh in two-match Test series and thus SKY’s selection is not possible.
“It also means there is no chance at all in Tests. There is a different level of competition for Tests. There are so many players who are knocking on the door and want to break it and come in. The players who have scored runs, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, I feel they might not play the next Test. So SKY is not going to play 50-over and five-day cricket now,” Chopra said.
India will next take on Bangladesh in two Test matches and three T20Is.
