PSL 2022: We are happy to win back to back games – Shaheen Shah Afridi

Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi is delighted to win back-to-back games in the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2022.

Lahore Qalandars comprehensively defeated Quetta Gladiators by eight wickets in the 20th match of the ongoing PSL 2022 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore on Sunday.

Lahore Qalandars won the toss and decided to bowl first and they were able to make early inroads. Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi struck twice as he accounted for Jason Roy and James Vince. Quetta Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was run out while Rashid Khan dismissed Ahsan Ali.

Thus, Quetta Gladiators lost four wickets inside the first five overs and they were tottering at 25-4. Iftikhar Ahmed played a fighting knock of 52 runs to get his team to a score of 142 runs. However, Lahore Qalandars cruised to the total in the 18th over as Fakhar Zaman and Kamran Ghulam scored fifties for their team.

Shaheen Shah Afridi said in the post-match presentation, “We are happy to win back-to-back games. I try to give 100 percent for my team as a bowler and as a skipper. T20s can have any batter hitting you on a particular day. I tried to take advantage of the swing on offer. I am enjoying myself”.

On the other hand, David Wiese also bowled a fine spell for Lahore Qalandars as he scalped two wickets and conceded only 25 runs in his quota of four overs.

Wiese said after the first innings, “It seems to be quite a decent wicket, slowers balls were stopping, our bowlers executed the plans very well, if you take wickets in the powerplay you will always put the other team in trouble. I saw that, not too sure what’s it about, but the old man still has gas in his legs and there was never a doubt he was not going for it [on Hafeez’s catch]. We have come a long way, it’s like a family here, I know it sounds cliched, but we really care for each other. Not too much [on the dew], not as bad as we thought it would be. It’s probably not a 140 wicket, we saw Iftikhar applied himself nicely and played a great inning”.

Lahore Qalandars will look to continue the good show in the ongoing PSL 2022. The Qalandars will next face Karachi Kings on Friday at the same venue.
