Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan, who has been scoring heaps and heaps of runs in first-class cricket over the last couple of seasons, is very close to making his way into the Indian team.
According to a report in the Times of India, the 24-year-old is all set to get his maiden India call-up for the Test series against Bangladesh in November. Sarfaraz scorer 134 on Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy final against Mandhya Pradesh in Bengaluru and thus made his exploits in this Ranji season even more special.
The ‘run-machine’ has already piled on 934 runs in this Ranji Trophy season at a humongous average of 133.85, including four hundreds and two fifties. He is the leading run scorer in the season and the second best Chetan Bisht is also miles behind Sarfaraz with 623 runs to his name.
Sarfaraz had an excellent outing in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy season as well. He had amassed 928 runs in that season at an average of 154.66, including two hundreds. Scoring 900+ runs in two successive Ranji seasons is a massive feat. After all, only Wasim Jaffer and Ajay Sharma have achieved this feat before Sarfaraz, among the vast number of batters who have played in the Ranji Trophy over the years.
“As far as Team India’s selection is concerned, I’m working hard. My focus is to only score runs. Every person has dreams. It will happen if it is written in my destiny,” Sarfaraz was quoted as saying by TOI.
“When I was a little boy, the dream was to wear the Mumbai jersey and score a hundred. When I realised that dream, then I wanted to score a hundred in a Ranji Trophy final when team is in a precarious position. That’s the reason I was overwhelmed with emotion after the hundred,” he added.
