India’s former T20I captain Rohit Sharma recalled the team’s impressive run in T20 World Cup 2024. Team India was able to end their major ICC title hoodoo after winning the T20I showpiece in the Caribbean. The Men in Blue defeated South Africa by seven runs to win their second T20 World Cup title.
India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, beating Ireland, Pakistan, USA, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia. After the Super 8 stage, India defeated England in the semifinal and then went past the Proteas in the summit clash.
In the final contest, South Africa were in a shoo-in position as they needed a run-a-ball in the last five overs but India was able to bounce back with Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh bowling economical overs. Furthermore, Suryakumar Yadav took an incredible catch at the boundary to dismiss David Miller.
“Ek bhi match naa haarna aur ja ke World Cup jeetna ye bahut badi baat hai (Not losing a single match and then going on to win the World Cup is a huge achievement),” Rohit Sharma said at an event in Mumbai.
“I think wo desperation jo sab players ke andar tha aur humare jo support team thi unme tha, sab logo ne ek saath milkar contribute kiya aur eventually jab hum World Cup jeete sabko pata hi hai kitna badhiya celebration hua jab hum Bombay aaye. (I think the desperation that was within all the players and our support staff, everyone contributed together, and eventually when we won the World Cup, everyone knows how incredible the celebrations were when we came back to Mumbai).”
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be next seen in action in the three-match ODI series against Australia in October.
