Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh wants to play under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma in the future. Singh said Rohit is a very smart leader and knows that the Indian skipper backs his players to the hilt.
Rohit led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles and he is one of the most successful IPL captains along with MS Dhoni. Furthermore, Rohit recently led India to glory in the Champions Trophy and scored a match-winning knock of 76 runs in the summit clash against New Zealand. Rohit scored a total of 180 runs in five matches at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 100 in the eight-team tournament.
In 2024, Rohit had led India to T20 World Cup triumph after the team had beaten South Africa by seven runs.
Shashank Singh said on Shubhankar Mishra podcast, “Everyone says that he [Rohit] backs his players to the hilt; gives them plenty of chances. He is a very smart captain. His one-liners (on the field) are also quite funny. If you ask me one captain I would want to play under, it will be Rohit Sharma. He is from Bombay. I have also batted with him once. He was not the captain back then. I want to play under his leadership, that’s my wish.”
On the other hand, Shashank Singh was able to hog the limelight in IPL 2024 for his ability to add the finishing touches for Punjab Kings. The right-hander scored 354 runs in 14 matches of the tournament at an average of 44.25 and a blistering strike rate of 164.65. After his impressive show, he was retained by the franchise before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
