Indian batter Shreyas Iyer has picked winning the Champions Trophy 2025 as the moment he will never forget. Iyer played a key role in taking India to glory in the eight-team tournament, scoring 243 runs in five matches.
Meanwhile, Iyer had also scored 530 runs in 11 matches of the 2023 ODI World Cup but India had failed to cross the final hurdle against Australia.
Furthermore, Iyer has savored a lot of success while leading in the IPL. Iyer took Kolkata Knight Riders to glory in 2024 whereas he took Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings to the final of the tournament in 2020 and 2025 respectively. But Iyer ignored his IPL accomplishments and picked winning the Champions Trophy as his favorite moment.
“Winning the ICC Championship for India. Champions Trophy mein. I think that was the best feeling ever,” Iyer said.
Iyer scored 604 runs in 17 matches at an average of 50.33 and a blistering strike rate of 175.07 in IPL 2025 but he was ignored for the Asia Cup squad, which surprised a lot of cricket experts.
Earlier, former Indian wicket-keeper bat Dinesh Karthik said in an Instagram video, “Where is Shreyas Iyer? That’s the big question, isn’t it? How could he miss out? To a point, it’s understandable. He wasn’t part of the 15, considering how well team India have done. 17 out of the last 20 they have won so okay, continuity, fair. But not making him part of the other five players which you have earmarked for the near future with the T20 World Cup in mind?”
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar, while announcing India’s squad for the Asia Cup, said of Iyer, “With regards to Shreyas, not his fault, nor is it ours. It’s just that you can pick 15 and at the moment you’ll have to wait for his chance.”
Iyer has been named as captain for India A for the two four-day matches against Australia A.
