Shubman Gill reveals he worked on a few things after double century against England

Indian captain Shubman Gill revealed he worked on a few things after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League to prepare for the Test series against England. After scoring a fine knock of 147 runs in the first innings of the opening Test at Leeds, Headingley, Gill broke multiple records when he scored 269 runs off 387 balls at Edgbaston.

Gill was averaging less than 15 in the three Test matches he had played in English conditions, and his preparation has certainly helped him turn the tables. The right-hander appointment as India’s Test captain was questioned by many experts as he didn’t have a great record while playing outside the subcontinent.

Gill added 203 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the sixth wicket and added 144 runs with Washington Sundar for the seventh wicket to put India in a commanding position. India has posted a gargantuan score of 587 runs on the board and had England on the ropes at 77-3 at stumps on day two.

Shubman Gill said after the end of the day’s play while talking to the broadcasters, “Good position to be in. I worked on a few things and at the end of IPL, which is very important before going into Test cricket. Looking at how things gave gone so far, it is working for me.”

Gill also took a fine diving catch to his left to dismiss the dangerman Ben Duckett. The Indian skipper said it could have been a different story altogether if they had taken their catches at Leeds.

Gill concluded, “I did not take any slip catches for the last couple of days because I was batting, but nice to get those catches. Fielding was very important and we discussed about it that if we were half as good in the previous game, things would have been different.”

Gill has been able to lead from the front in his first two matches as Indian captain and he would look to carry the good show.
