Stuart Broad hails Mohammed Siraj, says he bowled the ball of the game to Ben Stokes after Edgbaston win for India

Former England veteran fast bowler Stuart Broad lavished praise on Mohammed Siraj after India registered a gigantic 336-run win at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday. While Siraj returned with impressive figures of 6-70 in the first innings, he picked one wicket in the second essay.

The fast bowler was able to step up in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence and delivered for the visitors. Broad noted that Siraj bowled the ball of the game when he dismissed England captain Ben Stokes for a golden duck in the first innings with a cross-angle bumper.

“Mohammed Siraj, talks have been about that added responsibility, no Bumrah, he seems to attack really nicely. Bowls with aggression, emotion, and I think Gill captained him really well. Fired him up at the right time. He bowled what I can almost say ball of the game to Ben Stokes. First up, short, going across him, pace, and when you go and pick up 20 wickets on a pitch where your team scores so many runs its a great feeling,” Broad said on Sky Sports.

On the other hand, former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara lauded Indian skipper Shubman Gill, who aggregated 430 runs in the Test match. Gill batted at the top of his game and led from the front.

“I think he’s got his game arrangement spot on. Knows where his off-stump is, has a very simple technique of playing the ball. Leaves the stump open, no complications. Doesn’t try to play too many flowery shots either and he just keeps repeating the process time after time. Great forward stride, really good on the short ball, compact, and just delivers. So early in his career, in the UK, will give him loads of confidence. Everyone else will be looking at him to lead that batting attack saying great lesson for us,” Sangakkara said.

The third Test match between India and England will be played at Lord’s, London from 10th July onwards.
