WI vs IND 2022: Tough one for us – Nicholas Pooran after series loss against India

West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran admitted the series loss against India is a tough one for them. The Windies lost the third ODI against the visitors by a gargantuan margin of 119 runs (DLS method) at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Wednesday and thus they suffered their consecutive ninth loss.

India posted 225 runs in the rain-curtailed match after opting to bat first with Shubman Gill top-scoring with 98 runs. However, the West Indies kept losing wickets in the run chase as they failed to get going. Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran scored 42 each for the hosts but the rest of the batters failed to contribute in the second innings.

In fact, West Indies had thrown down a gauntlet in the first two ODIs but they could not give any competition to the young Indian team in the final game of the series. Thus, the visitors were able to clean sweep the series 3-0.

Meanwhile, there were some good performances from West Indies in the first two matches. Shai Hope had scored a fine hundred in the second game whereas Nicholas Pooran also performed consistently throughout the series. Furthermore, Alzarri Joseph was also impressive with the ball.

Nicholas Pooran was disappointed with the third ODI result but feels they did a decent job in the first two games despite being on the wrong side of the result.

Pooran said in the post-match presentation, “It was a tough one for us. We did a lot of right things in the first two games. I think we tried up our best, the boys performed well. But there were a lot of games in a short span of time. As a batting group, it was going to be a challenge with DLS coming into play. We did get some partnerships, but not as many as we wanted, that cost us the game.”

He added, “There are a few inexperienced players, still figuring out how to play ODI cricket. Everyone has a good idea now, looking forward to the upcoming New Zealand series. We gained a lot in this series after coming from Guyana. The bowlers bowled well in the powerplay, they didn’t get wickets, but that’s fine. The guys are getting more confident with every game. Very excited with our T20 team, and looking forward to the game on Friday. Hope that we come out and entertain the crowd.”

West Indies will look to bounce back stronger in the T20I series. The first T20I will be played on Friday at the Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad.
