Euro 2020: Robert Lewandowski looks to find a way past Sweden

Poland will have to beat Sweden in the final group game on Wednesday to stand a chance of qualifying for the round of 16. Group E is well poised for a gripping final day as all 4 teams can still qualify.

Poland, who are currently on 4th place with just 1 point can essentially end up topping the group if they win their match by a hefty margin and Spain play out a draw against Slovakia.

Robert Lewandowski will be in the spotlight once again as Poland look to qualify to the knockout stage at a major tournament for only the second time since 1986. The Bayern Munich striker was one of the best players on the pitch in Poland’s 1-1 draw against Spain.

Sweden will prove to be a tough test for Poland as they are very hard side to score against. Sweden have not lost a single match in 2021 and haven’t conceded a goal in the tournament so far. In such situations one needs a clinical striker who can find the back of the net at any given moment and Robert Lewandowski certainly provides that.

Lewandowski had a quiet game against Slovakia but came back to life against Spain when he outjumped the now-Spanish defender Aymeric Laporte to score the equaliser. Sweden are yet to concede a goal so far and are one of only 3 teams to achieve that; the others being England and Italy.

Robert Lewandowski has advanced just once to the round of 16 stage in his 3 participations which was in Euro 2016. While he will go down as one of the best Polish players ever, he will want to build his legacy by having a deep run in a major tournament.

With 67 goals in 121 games for the national side, no one doubts Lewandowski’s ability to score goals. But he often criticised for not showing up at big events as he just has 3 goals in 13 appearances at the Euros. Against Sweden on Wednesday, that all could change.
