India’s out-of-favour spinner Kuldeep Yadav is hopeful of making it to the team’s T20 World Cup squad. Kuldeep has been in poor form in the last two years and he is definitely lacking the confidence.
The left-arm spinner played only one Test match against England in which he scalped a brace. In fact, Kuldeep didn’t get a chance to play in the Gabba Test against Australia despite injuries to players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
Furthermore, Kuldeep couldn’t even get a game in the first phase of IPL 2021 for Kolkata Knight Riders as Varun Chakaravarthy was preferred over him.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep has been picked for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, where India will play three ODIs and as many T20Is. Subsequently, the IPL will resume in UAE from September 19.
Kuldeep believes if he can perform well in these two series/tournament, he will give himself a good chance to represent India in the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held later in the year.
“For T20, nothing more than performance matters if you have to make space for yourself in the team. There is the Sri Lanka tour, then IPL, it will all be very important for me. I hope that I perform well to take the place in my team. If I perform well in both the tournaments then hopefully, I’ll get a place in the T20 World Cup team,” Kuldeep explained while talking to ANI.
On the other hand, Kuldeep understands that the team is always picked on the basis of team combination and he will need to come up with consistent performances to get regular chances.
“To be very honest, frustrating wouldn’t be the correct word, as a player you are sad because you want to perform, you want to play the match. You can think like that, individually but not with cricket.
Cricket is a team sport, and you have to play as per the requirements of the team. You have to think about the team and team combination matters a lot so it’s better to stay positive, keep putting in efforts, and wait for your opportunity to perform. Team combination for me has always been good, all have been supportive,” said Kuldeep.
