Bengaluru FC have taken a decisive step toward rebuilding their squad by signing goalkeeper Jaspreet Singh on a multi-year deal as a free agent from Namdhari FC. The 26-year-old, fresh off a standout I-League season where he clinched the Golden Glove, is seen as a vital addition to a team eager to bounce back from a disappointing previous campaign.
Jaspreet’s move marks his elevation to the Indian Super League (ISL), the country’s top football division, after a consistent run in the I-League. The signing is not just a reward for his stellar form—9 clean sheets in 17 games—but also a reflection of Bengaluru FC’s commitment to recognizing and promoting talent from India’s lower leagues.
Having started his football journey at the Minerva Academy, Jaspreet made his professional debut with Punjab FC in the 2020–21 season. He later joined Sreenidi Deccan FC in 2022 before going on loan to Namdhari FC, where he completed the 2023–24 season. His performances earned him a permanent move to Namdhari for the 2024–25 campaign, which he capped off with a league-best record between the posts.
For Bengaluru FC, the move comes at a critical time. Last season exposed several vulnerabilities in the squad, especially at the back. Veteran goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu endured a tough spell, going over 11 games without a clean sheet. With pressure mounting and the defense often looking shaky, the need for a reliable last line of defense became increasingly clear.
While Bengaluru already have Lalthuammawia Ralte, who kept one clean sheet in two appearances, the management sought a more consistent option. Jaspreet’s arrival now sets the stage for an intriguing competition for the starting role. Whether he becomes the new number one or pushes Gurpreet back to his best, the addition signals Bengaluru’s intent to revitalize their squad.
Jaspreet’s signing also symbolizes hope for aspiring players in the I-League and other lower divisions, showing that consistent performance can open doors to the ISL. As Bengaluru FC look to turn the page and aim higher this season, Jaspreet Singh might just be the dependable presence they need to start that journey.
