I-League: Gurtej Singh To Join East Bengal

Hyderabad FC’s defender, Gurtej Singh, may join fellow India Super League side East Bengal for the 2020/2021 season.

The I-League side are currently recruiting in order to have a better 2020/2021 season after they were 16 points away from League winners Mohun Bagan who won the league with four games to spare.

Hyderabad, on the other hand, finished the India Super League last system abysmally after a 10th place finish on the log of an 11- team Indian Super League.

East Bengal had recently signed India striker Balwant Singh from India Super League champions, Atletico De Kolkota.

Singh played thirteen games in the India Super League with an impressive number of statistics with 21 tackles, 15 interception, and 10 clearances.

The Punjabi defender played for the now disbanded Pune City FC in 2017/2018 but moved on to join the newly formed Hyderabad at the end of the end of 2018/2019 season.

The 30-year old Debuted ten years ago for JCT FC, he then moved to Pailan Arrows before joining the Churchill Brothers as well as Bengaluru.

The Red and Gold’s second signing this period is more or less replacing Mehtab Singh, who is about teaming up with Mumbai City FC.

Singh has won the I-League on two different occasions with two different teams. The first came with Churchill Brothers in 2012/2013 and Bengaluru in 2014 and the Federation cup in 2015.

The I-league has four more games left to be played despite the fact that Mohun Bagan has been confirmed as Champions.

The spread of the novel COVID-19 pandemic has led to the league being suspended indefinitely with no return date set yet with the total lockdown in India currently.

It has also forced FIFA to cancel all international matches indefinitely, including the 2020 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup scheduled for India.
