Jose Molina hails collective effort after League Shield triumph

Mohun Bagan Super Giant head coach Jose Molina lauded the collective effort of the team after the League Shield triumph. The Mariners won their last game of the league phase against second-placed FC Goa by 2-0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium, Kolkata in the ongoing Indian Super League on Saturday.

The home team took the lead in the 62nd minute as Boris Singh scored in the wrong net after a goalless first half. Subsequently, Greg Stewart scored in injury time to give a comfortable win to the Mariners.

“I’m absolutely a happy man. I think we did a great job. From the owner to the players, everybody, coaching staff, all of us, supporting staff, helped to win this Shield. When you have work and you have passion, maybe you can be lucky. You can have luck, But the luck is not for free,” Jose Molina said during the post-match press conference.

The Spaniard said it is crucial for players to take proper rest before the playoffs and come up with fresh bodies.

“Now the next match will be on 2nd or 3rd in April. So it’s a long time until that match. Of course, I think, we all deserve, some days to go home, to meet loved ones, family, and to rest. To recharge the batteries. We will come stronger. We will come back as an A-team to play in a games and I have no doubt the players are going to enjoy a lot, this playoff,” he said.

The gaffer admitted that winning is difficult but it is even more difficult to retain consistency at the top.

“To win is difficult, but to keep winning is still more difficult. And my players proved that they are champion players, they won last year. Not all of them, But a lot of them won last year. And they won again this year, even though the league was more difficult than last year, for sure. And it has been tough to arrive here,” he concluded.

MBSG will look to come up with their best in the playoffs.
