PSG exclude Donnarumma from Super Cup squad

A few hours after Paris Saint-Germain announced their UEFA Super Cup squad, Gianluigi Donnarumma was linked to a Premier League move.

The current Champions League holders omitted the Italian goalie from the clash, prompting the present development.

The former AC Milan goalkeeper, according to French media, is now expected to leave the Paris club after it was reported that he was left out of Les Parisiens’ squad to face Tottenham Hotspur.

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that the shot-stopper’s camp feels it is an ‘unfair’ situation to leave him out of the squad, which has now ‘completely broken’ the relationship between the club and the player.

Romano also reported that the Premier League will be the most likely destination for Donnarumma, either this summer or on the expiration of his contract in June 2026.

Marc Mechouna had earlier reported that Manchester United and Chelsea had enquired about the Italian international, following the signing of Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who signed a five-year deal with the capital club on Sunday.

With this statement, it seems Luis Enrique wants to continue the rebuild of the team, after the exit of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

PSG are also linked with some defenders in the current transfer window as they prepare to defend the Champions League trophy they won last season.

Although Donnarumma has yet to express his desire to leave the club, no breakthrough was made in contract extension discussions with the former AC Milan shot-stopper. This led to an impasse and the subsequent signing of Chevalier, who is expected to be the club’s number one goalkeeper next season.

Donnarumma won’t want to play a second fiddle to the 23-year-old, as his future in the Italian team could also be affected if he stays with the French champions.

What’s now left is to see the amount PSG would likely want for the shot stopper, with just a year left on his present deal.

He could as well hold on for a season and allow his contract to run out and earn massive sign-on fees from his next club, just as Mbappe did two seasons ago before securing a dream move to Real Madrid.
