The Indian Men’s Hockey team wants to tribute the COVID-19 frontline workers by winning a Olympic medal at Tokyo says skipper Manpreet Singh

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought human life to a standstill all around the world and thousands of people have made great sacrifices to save the lives of others. Therefore the Indian Hockey team captain Manpreet Singh has announced that the Men in Blue will look to tribute the frontline workers and the citizens overall with their performances at the Tokyo Olympics.

The midfielder vowed that his team will fight it out at the Olympics to win a medal and will dedicate it to the frontline workers of the country.

“As we work hard towards the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, we promise to fight all odds to win a medal for India. And if we do get a medal, we would like to dedicate it to the true heroes of our country – the doctors and frontline workers who have worked tirelessly to heal our country through these tough times and saved millions of lives. Thank you, Jai Hind,” stated Manpreet Singh in a video released by Hockey India.

The Indian Men’s team is currently continuing their preparations at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) facility in Bengaluru. They are looking to put everything on the line to deliver a solid performance at the Summer Games. With little more than a month left for the start of the Olympics, the Indians are charged up to clinch a position on the podium.

The Indian skipper revealed that he is proud of his team and the effort and dedication that the men are putting behind the single goal. While it won’t be easy for the World No. 4 side having clubbed against teams like New Zealand, reigning Olympic Champions Argentina, Australia, Spain and hosts Japan in Pool A.

The Men in Blue start their campaign against New Zealand on July 24 and their start in the opening game will be crucial as momentum is always key in such mega events. A lot of former players believe that this team can do wonders at the Olympics and Manpreet and his men will look to prove them right.

“I am really proud to witness the kind of dedication each one of us has been showing during the trials. Representing India at the Olympic Games is a huge honour and a dream for every athlete. Every hockey player is pushing each other to give their best shot,” Manpreet Singh concluded.
