India’s Vijender Singh will make a return to the ring after almost a year. Singh, who hails from Bhiwani, had suffered his first Pro Circuit defeat against Russia’s Artysh Lopsan in Panaji, Goa in March 2021. The Russian had taken only five rounds to beat the Indian athlete.
Lopsan broke Singh’s 12-0 record in Pro Boxing but the Indian admitted records are meant to be broken. Out of Vijender’s 12 wins, eight have come by knockouts.
The 36-year-old Boxer added that he takes every fight as his first and he is looking forward to throwing his best punches against Ghana boxer Eliasu Sulley as they will take on each other in The Jungle Bout.
“Records are meant to be broken. It is all part of the game,” Vijender Singh said, as quoted by the PTI news agency.
“I always fight like it’s my first fight. When I start training I’m just like a blank slate, I learn everything again. I listen to what my coaches tell me and start over,” the 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medallist said.
Sulley has an 8-0 record in pro boxing and he has won all of his fights by Knockouts. Thus, Singh will have his work cut out against the confident boxer.
This fight will be played at the Balbir Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium, Raipur in the Super Middleweight category on 17th August from 8:30 PM onwards. There will be a total of five thrilling bouts and the branding will be done by Dafanews, which will include Aston Band and Timer branding.
Live telecast will be available live on Sports 18 and the Voot app and Exclusvie Livestream will be available on DafaNews.
