Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz came up with a dominant performance against Cameron Norrie to qualify for his third consecutive Wimbledon semifinal on Tuesday. The Spaniard dominated from the get-go and didn’t give many chances to the Brit.
The World No.2 registered a 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 win to move into the last four of the championships. The Spaniard was able to wrap up the game in one hour and 39 minutes to keep his good form. This was the 23rd consecutive tour-level win for Alcaraz as he continued his rich form.
“I’m just really happy to be able to play another semi-final here at Wimbledon,” said Alcaraz. “It’s something really special and something that I wanted to do at the beginning of the week. I’m really happy with the level that I played today against a difficult player like Cam. I’m pretty sure that there is nobody working harder than him, so I’m happy to see him playing these kinds of matches.”
Alcaraz will next take on America’s Taylor Fritz, who has been in perfect form on grass.
“He’s playing great,” Alcaraz said of Fritz. “He’s been really successful: Two titles, semi-finals here at Wimbledon… I’m just going to be ready for that battle. It’s always tough to play against him. I will just focus, but right now I want to enjoy and live this moment because it’s really not easy to play the semi-finals here.”
Alcaraz has a 2-0 record against Fritz and would want to bring his best against the American.
The youngster will join Bjorn Borg as the second man in the Open Era to achieve the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years if he goes all the way at SW19.
