Rafael Nadal is undoubtedly the king of clay and his records speak for himself. Nadal has an unprecedented record of 100-2 on clay courts and he is almost invincible on his favourite court. Meanwhile, a lot of Tennis boffins had raised doubts over Nadal’s domination at the Roland Garros for the 2020 edition.
Nadal was coming into the French Open 2020 without winning a single title on clay for the first time in 15 years. Furthermore, Nadal was up against slower conditions, which were not suited to his style of play.
Moreover, Nadal was stunned by Argentine Diego Schwartzman in the quarter-final of the Italian Open (which is also played on clay) before the Roland Garros. Thus, there were question marks whether Nadal will be able to lift his 13th French Open title and make history.
However, Nadal came out all guns blazing in the major event. The lefty took his revenge against Diego Schwartzman as he defeated him in the semi-finals.
Subsequently, he thrashed his arch-rival, Novak Djokovic, in the final of the major in straight sets. In fact, Nadal didn’t even lose a single set during the course of the tournament and it was the fourth time when he won a slam without dropping a solitary set.
“Well, my best memory is Roland Garros 2020. I enjoyed an amazing tournament. An unexpected victory in my opinion because the conditions haven’t been the perfect ones for me,” said Nadal in the interview.
Ergo, Rafael Nadal was able to match Roger Federer’s tally of 20 slams. Nadal has been a champion and once again proved his mettle in the French Open.
Nadal has now decided to skip Miami Open to prepare for the Clay court in Europe as he recuperating from the lower back injury.
